PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE: Hello again, everyone. I hope you are keeping safe and healthy. I hope you are getting your vaccine or maybe have gotten both shots. We have been meeting in person at Bayard's for three weeks and plan to continue. Join us for lunch if you can. We will also have our first face-to-face meeting, April 9 at the Senior Center. I hope to see many of you there. We plan to have lunch followed by our monthly membership meeting there. Thanks to all of you that have renewed your membership, and we would greatly appreciate the rest of you renewing yours when you get the notice from TREA.

It is preferred for both your first and second vaccines to be from the same organization. ROBOT SECURITY DOGS: Tyndall Air Force Base's 325th Security Forces Squadron has received its first set of semi-autonomous "robot dogs," which it wants to use as extra security around Florida Panhandle installation, according to a news release. Dubbed "Quad-legged Unmanned Ground Vehicles," or Q-UGVs, the new robots, which can crouch low and creep into shallow spaces, were delivered last week, the service said. The droids were created by Ghost Robotics and Immersive Wisdom. "They can patrol the remote areas of a base while defenders can continue to patrol and monitor other critical areas of an installation."

VA STUDY WILL PUSH CONGRESS TO PASS SERVICE DOG GRANT PROGRAM: A measure reintroduced in the Senate would order the Department of Veterans Affairs to pay for and provide service dogs to veterans suffering from mental health issues, following years of fruitless attempts. The Puppies Assisting Wounded Servicemembers, or PAWS, Act, introduced by Sen. Deb Fischer, R-Neb., would require the VA to create a grant program to pay for and provide service dogs to veterans with post-traumatic stress disorder and other mental health ailments.
