ACTING SECRETARY COMMENTS: I hope everyone had a wonderful and Happy Easter. A few of us (President, Vice-President, Treasurer, acting Secretary) discussed meeting one Friday a month (not the second Friday) at Bayard's café on 540 S. Broadway Blvd at 12:00ish pm. As some of you know, we started meeting at Bayard's in 2015 and stopped due to COVID-19. So, think about it for our April meeting. Also, please bring your ideas/suggestions on new methods we can implement to recruit new members. Even though getting new members is not only OUR problem, it comprises all Veteran Groups. Our total membership commitment is required to tackle recruitment, bolster our reputation as a group, and remain the ONLY TREA CHAPTER IN KANSAS.
WELLNESS: Shirley Wagner and Rachel Holt Fikes. Keep them in your thoughts and prayers for healing.
APRIL BIRTHDAYS: Richard Trow, Miles Hiyane, Cynthia A. Brinleyand Bob Clark. A big happy birthday to you all! If your birthday is not listed, PLEASE let us know so we can include you.
SPECIAL GUEST: Mary Landes, Executive Director of Salina Innovation Foundation, Masonic Temple, will attend our April meeting. She will brief us on available areas for storing chapter property and having our Veterans Dinner/auction fundraiser at the Masonic Temple.
EARTH DAY: An annual global celebration dedicated to environmental protection is April 22. This significant day raises awareness about safeguarding Earth's natural resources for future generations. It's not just a day; it's a movement that mobilizes over 1 billion people across 192 countries to protect our planet and advocate for a brighter future. This year, the theme for Earth Day is "Planet vs. Plastics," emphasizing the urgent need to reduce plastic production and create a plastic-free planet for generations to come.
MARCH MEETING TIDBITS: Ten members attended the meeting with two visitors: Russell Sharff (military retiree), Veterans Employment Representative, and Kansas Works. R. Sharff was the guest speaker at our monthly meeting on October 13, 2017. Former chapter member Bud Deghand (Army Veteran) attended our meeting. Member David Larson (SFC Army retiree) attended his first chapter meeting. The meeting attendance drawing winner was Jason Bathon ($20 gift card), who donated the gift card to the chapter as a drawing prize for membership recruitment.
The Treasurer's report for 02/09/24 to 03/08/24 was a balance of $4314.44, which included one deposit and debit.
The date and time of November 8, 6:00 PM, were approved for the Veterans Day Dinner and Auction fundraiser. Suggested Carter for the fundraiser were Jim's Chicken, Hog Wild, or Hickory Hut. We will compare costs and report the findings at the April meeting. We discussed locations such as the Masonic Temple, Carver Center, or Friendship Center, which require our decision—the Mason Temple for storing chapter property.
Central Mall's Military & Veteran's Appreciation Day event, May 11, from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM, our chapter decided to have a recruiting table. William Quinley and Moses Stewart volunteered to work at the table.
REMINDER: Please renew your TREA membership ASAP. Once you are removed from the membership roster by TREA HQ, you will be issued a new membership ID number when you renew it.
