SECRETARY'S REMARKS: A vital issue that we must accomplish is to elect a new Chapter Secretary in November. Since 2009 (13 years), I (W. Vinyard) have occupied this position and can't be reelected per our Bylaws, Article V, section 4b. Article V limits all office terms, even at the National (TREA) level. We need candidates for this office. I will assist the electee for one year or until the person is comfortable doing the job. Your strong support is appreciated.
WELLNESS: Dorothy Armster, James Jones, and Shirley Wagner. Phil Coleman is recovering from back surgery. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.
BIRTHDAY IN OCTOBER: Happy Birthday to Dorothy Armster and James Jones.
GUEST SPEAKER: Patrick Wiesner (Major Army Retired) served in Afghanistan in 2013 with the JAG Corps. He's been a lawyer in Overland Park, KS, for 22 years and a CPA. A thank you to Taft Yates for obtaining a speaker for our meeting.
CHAPTER NEWSLETTER: Let me (editor W. Vinyard) know if you have any helpful articles/information for our Newsletter. Please send it to me TWO WEEKS before our membership meeting date at vinex2@att.net or call at 785-787-0655. Also, we can put it on the chapter Website or Facebook Page. Your involvement is appreciated.
TIDBITS OF SEPTEMBER MEETING: Doug Randolph won the $20 gift card attendance drawing. The chapter members finalized the ticket prices, location, and caterer for the Veterans Dinner Fundraiser on November 4. Treasurer Roger Thull gave the treasurer's report for September 9 a total of one deposit, two expenditures, and a checking account balance of $2239.13.
CHAPTER'S 2nd ANNUAL DINNER FUNDRAISER: November 4 is the date for our Vet Dinner fundraiser. We changed the dinner location to the Carver Center, 315 N 2nd St, Salina, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Hickory Hut Serious Bar-B-Q will cater the meal, and a carryout meal is available. There will be a live auction, a fifty-fifty drawing (the winner does not need to be present), and a free TREA veteran membership. The ticket price for one meal is $20.00. The 50/50 drawing tickets, three for $5.00, seven for $10.00, and sixteen for $20.00. We will sell tickets at the event.
GUEST SPEAKER CHANGE: Phil Coleman was the guest speaker for the Vet Dinner fundraiser. Unfortunately, he had to cancel due to medical reasons. He is looking forward to being a speaker at one of our future events and sends his regards. Salutes to Taft Yates; we have a replacement guest speaker, CSM Army Retired Ivanhoe Love of Liberal, KS. He served two tours in Vietnam, is a Silver Star Medal recipient, and has an exciting life story to convey
FORT RILEY RETIREE APPRECIATION DAY (RAD): The RAD is on October 22 at the Riley's Community Center Building, 446 Seitz Rd, 7:30 am-3:30 pm. This event is for military retirees, spouses, and widowers. There will be door-drawing prizes and speakers to update us on pertinent Fort Riley and military information.
SALINA VA CLINIC: The clinic is giving the flu shot. You can call and make an appointment.
HALLOWEEN QUOTE: "Halloween shadows played upon the walls of the houses. In the sky, the Halloween moon raced in and out of the clouds. The Halloween wind was blowing, not a blasting of wind but a right-sized swelling, falling and gushing of wind. It was a lovely and exciting night, exactly the kind of night Halloween should be."
