REMARKS:  As we near the end of 2022, our chapter has had a successful year, i.e., our financial status is stable.  But we still need to focus heavily on recruiting more members.  To date, our membership total is 44.  Also, our meeting attendance average is 12.4 people per meeting.   2023 is an election year for officers (President, Vice-President, Treasurer, and Secretary).

Special thanks to Vice-President Jason Bathon for representing our chapter on November 12 at the Salina Veteran’s Day Parade.

At the parade, his truck displayed the TREA chapter 16 banner.

GUEST SPEAKER:  Chad Young, Executive Director of Salina Rescue Mission.

WELLNESS:   Dorothy Armster and Shirley Wagner.  Please keep Dorothy and Shirley in mind when you pray.

Art Ramirez is recovering from a pelvic injury.  On 11/23/22, his Son Eric Ramirez died. Keep the Ramirez family in your thoughts and prayers during their time of sorrow.

BIRTHDAY IN DECEMBER:   Happy Birthday to Charles Carmin, Fred & Tammy Fanning. Please let us know if we failed to mention your birthday.

CHRISTMAS LUNCH:   As in the past, our chapter will celebrate the Christmas Holiday, giving each member and spouse who attends our meeting $5.00 for their lunch.  Also, there will be drawings for $20 gift cards.  SO COME ON OUT!

RECRUITMENT:  We welcome aboard new member CSM Army Retiree Ivanhoe Love, Liberal, KS.  Please spread the word, emphasizing that we are THE ONLY TREA CHAPTER in Kansas and what we have to offer as a chapter…great fellowship.  Likewise, share this newsletter with a veteran or their spouse, invite them to one of our meetings and let them know we will pay for their meal.  Suggest they visit our Facebook Page, www.facebook.com/groups/midwaysalina/, and website www.midwaychapter16.org.

TIDBITS OF NOVEMBER MEETING:   Jere Faubion won a $20 gift Card.  Secretary William Vinyard gave the monthly Treasurer report for October 14 to November 18, 2022, eight deposits, three expenditures, and a checking account balance of $3682.34.  Visitors were Doug Kempton and Jere Faubion of the Caledonia Lodge 459 in Salina.  They presented chapter 16 with a check for $600 for the chapter’s past participation in Saline County Veterans events and current endeavors.  D. Kempton shared how the chapter could raise funds, i.e., the annual Caledonia Lodge win a car raffle by selling tickets.  The members discussed the problems encountered at the Vet Dinner fundraiser and corrective actions.

VETERAN NEWS NETWORK (VNN): A new way V.A. works to build trust, improve health outcomes, and improve the Veteran experience is through the VNN.  VNN is a television channel developed for Veterans, primarily by Veterans.

BILL H.R. 9282:  TREA was proud to endorse - The Veterans Protection from Fraud Act, a bipartisan bill to improve protections for veterans against mail fraud.  The Veterans Protection from Fraud Act would add up to 10 years to a prison sentence for a criminal convicted of conspiracy to commit telemarketing or email marketing fraud targeting a veteran of any age.
