MEAL: Chicken Enchilada or loaded baked potato soup, Spanish rice, refried beans, raspberry cheesecake, and chimichanga

SPOTLIGHT ON A CHAPTER MEMBER:  Member Taft Yates, on 7 and 8 Feb, will participate in a Professional Leadership Conference at Joint-Base Lewis-McChord, Tacoma, WA. The event pertains to the leadership of the 2 Battalion (BN) Ranger Regiment. The Vietnam Veterans who served in-country with the LRRP/Ranger companies will give a presentation. Also, T. Yates will be involved with other former Rangers Leaders to provide information on the climate of the military when the 2nd BN was founded in 12/1974, daily life, training, standards, missions, schools, and equipment. And when General Creighton Abrams charter for 2/75 Ranger BN Operation Urgent Fury and the activation of the 3rd Ranger BN and Ranger Regiment and Operation Just Cause. Taft and Barbara Yates are donating a new 55-inch (4 series) TV to our chapter for fundraising. 

GUEST SPEAKER: Kent Tretheway (USAF Vet), Curator St John's Military School Museum. 

TAPS:  Chapter Member Billy Booe (retired MSGT USAF), life TREA member, passed away January 6, 2023, a member of TREA since 1983. Keep the Booe family members in your thoughts and prayers.

BIRTHDAYS IN FEBRUARY: Vickie Guillot

WELLNESS: Dorothy Armster and Shirley Wagner. Keep thinking of them and praying for their well-being.

SUICIDAL CRISIS: Starting January 17, Veterans in suicidal crisis can go to any VA or non-VA healthcare facility for free emergency health care at no cost – including inpatient or crisis residential care for up to 30 and outpatient care for up to 90 days. Veterans need not be enrolled in the VA system to use this benefit. (Source U. S. Department of Veterans Affairs News Release dated January 13, 2023)

TIDBITS OF JANUARY MEETING: The attendance gift card drawing winner was Taft Yates. Guest Speaker Chris Ratcliff, Executive Director, Reflections Retirement Resort in Salina. C. Ratcliff talked about services available at the Reflections Retirement Resort, such as: starting costs for independent and assisted living, dining services, additional services, and types of live-in quarters. President G. Keil presented Chad Young with a Chapter Certificate of Appreciation.

Treasurer Roger Thull briefed the monthly Treasurer report for January 2023, five expenses, and three deposits. The checking account balance is $3523.74. W. Vinyard advised the January meeting is member Rachel Holt Fikes' (wellness) last meeting. The attending membership wished her well. W. Vinyard asked for help in finding guest speakers for our monthly meetings. Members Jason Bathon, Doug Randolph, and Taft Yates volunteered to help.

STATES WITH TAX-FREE MILITARY RETIREMENT PAY: The States in the US do not tax military retirement pay: Alabama, Arkansas, Connecticut, Hawaii, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, North Dakota, Ohio, and Pennsylvania.
