MEAL: Beef casserole with cornbread top, baked beans, cherry cheesecake, wheat bread, and jambalaya soup

 

SECRETARY’S COMMENT:  We hope everyone has a blessed and pleasant Fourth of July. When I became chapter secretary (2008), we had 89 members; now, we are down to 44. This year, TREA chapters have dwindled to 25 chapters. For our chapter to remain alive, we must accept change and need new ideas for recruiting new members. As a chapter member, make our chapter a family affair and recruit your spouse as a member. Most importantly, please let us know if you have any suggestions.

 

GUEST SPEAKERS: Eric Frank, Director of Development Catholic Charities of Northern Kansas. Hannah Nichols, Human Resources and Development Coordinator at Catholic Charities.  

 

MILITARY DISCOUNT AT TARGET: A new Target military discount for the 4th of July (starts June 26 to July 4) will give veterans, active-duty, and Guard and Reserve service members and their direct family members a 10% discount on most products. Also, the same deal is for Veterans Day.

BIRTHDAYS IN JULY:   John Geisler and Michael Llamas.  

 

WELLNESS:  Dorothy Armster, Shirley Wagner, and James Jones. Keep them in your hearts, thoughts and prayers.

 

CHAPTER MONTHLY NEWSLETTER:  The chapter Newsletter fee is $14.00 per year (due in July) and shall be used to meet printing and postal service postage expenses. However, we can send (free of charge) you a copy of our monthly newsletter by e-mail instead of by USPS mail. Please let us know if your e-mail address has changed. Your support is appreciated.

DONATIONS:   As you know, Chapter 16 mainly survives financially from monthly FREE WILL DONATIONS given by chapter members. We do not receive financial support from the TREA National Headquarters.  If we can afford it yearly, we try to have a fundraiser event. Please feel free to donate any time, make the check payable to TREA Chapter 16 and mail it to the above address. We are thankful for your open-heart generosity.

 

TIDBITS OF JUNE MEETING:  Vice President Jason Bathon gave an in-depth presentation on internet/phone scams and cybersecurity, what age group is most under attack and susceptible, precautions to take to protect yourself, advanced identity protector, etc. Treasurer Roger Thull gave the monthly treasurer report: $43.20 on postage for newsletter mailing and $30.00 on one free TREA one-year membership for a total of $73.20. A checking account balance of $1870.33. Four members volunteered for the fundraiser dinner committee. Discussion determined November 4 as the date for a fundraiser veterans’ dinner. Suggested was the VFW and if they could cook the meal. Also, to seek possible locations and caterers. President Gary Keil will check if November 4 is available, the room rental fee, and the meal cost. The newest chapter member Bob Harris of Salina (Army Vet), was the winner of the 1-year free membership drawing from the chapter recruiting effort on May 27.
