He talked about the history of the St John's Military School (started in 1887), which had been open for 131 years before closing in 2019, and the merger between St. John's Military School and Saint Francis Ministries. The St. John's Military School Historical Museum (2019 non-profit entity) was formed and permanently established and, in 2021, opened as an admission-free museum. President G. Keil presented Kent Tretheway with a Chapter Certificate of Appreciation.

We discussed and agreed for the chapter to have a no-charge hot dog cookout for the community on June 14, Flag Day, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm —also a bake sale. We plan to have the event at the Masonic Temple. But we must start preparing for the event early.

SURVIVOR BENEFIT PLAN (SBP): SBP provides up to 55 percent of a service member's retired pay as an annuity to an eligible beneficiary upon the death of a member serving in the line of duty on active or inactive duty or upon the death of a retiree. The amount of the SBP annuity is a percentage of retired pay. Retirees elect whether to pay premiums that will guarantee their spouses or other beneficiaries a percentage of their retirement pay after they die. At retirement, full basic SBP for spouse and children will take effect automatically if you don't make any other choice. You may not reduce or decline spouse coverage without your spouse's written consent. If you have a former spouse, it may affect your options. (source Military.com)

DID YOU KNOW? For the first time, a key Senate panel has advanced a bill that would make the Department of Veterans Affairs research marijuana as a treatment for chronic pain and post-traumatic stress disorder.

The Senate Veterans Affairs Committee voted in a closed-door session Thursday to advance the VA Medicinal Cannabis Research Act, which directs the department to conduct a "large scale" observational study and possibly a clinical trial on the effects of marijuana use on veterans' health.
