COMMENTS: Our Vet Dinner Fundraiser (11/04/22) happened as planned with good results. We thank members J. Bathon, R. Sondergard, D. Randolph, B. Vinyard, and M. Stewart, Leo Groff, who donated auction and prize drawing items. Thanks a lot to Barbara Taft for decorating the tables and desserts. Also, Wardene Stewart, Cayla Sondergard, and Bertha Vinyard for providing desserts. The highest amount paid for an item at the auction was the red, white, and blue wooden bench with a talking Armyteddy bear donated by member Shirley Wagner, Anthony, KS. Businesses, Office Max/Depot, AutoZone, and Ad Astra Book & Coffee House also provided items for the auction and gift drawing.
A special thank you to guest speaker CSM retiree Ivanhoe Love, Liberal, KS, and auctioneer Bob Clark, Topeka, KS. We're grateful to everyone who came out to support the fundraiser. We received a free-will donation from member Phil Coleman, Salina, KS. He thinks our group is remarkable and is looking forward to being the guest speaker at our next Vet Dinner Fundraiser. VISITOR: Dr. Doug Kempton of the Caledonia Lodge 459 in Salina has a Masonic check for our chapter.Hence the contribution is being given to the local military organizations that participated in the last Saline Veterans Appreciation Day event in 2017. Some of you probably remember the event that included a Parade downtown Salina with a dinner at the Masonic Temple. We are grateful and blessed to receive the donation.
FLU SHOT: Flu season is starting early this year, so protect yourself and your loved ones by getting a flu shot. On October 1, the Salina VA clinic started giving the flu shot. People over 65 and people with inflammatory forms of arthritis are at increased risk for flu complications.
TIDBITS OF OCTOBER MEETING: Vice President Jason Bathon gave the treasurer's report for October 14, a total of two deposits (Free Will Donation and Fundraiser Ticket sales), two expenditures, and a checking account balance of $2479.13. Guest Speaker Patrick Wiesner (Retired Major US Army), an Attorney of Law and Certified Public Accountant in Overland Park, KS. He spoke about his service career as a Judge Advocate General in the Army and his experiences while serving in Afghanistan and Iraq.
